[Charter-Com] sending via the list, or not via the list

Dear Dennis, Fran and other members of the Charter Commission:

I don't mean to belabor this point, but I suggest (again) that we send agendas, minutes, and any communication that is being sent to all members of the commission, via the listserv.

The logic is this: when an email is sent to all of us, it necessarily becomes a public record. Sending it via the listserv automatically sends it to all members of the commission, and simultaneously archives the message on our web site.

When messages are sent to everyone individually, as they have been, I have to re-send the message to the listserv in order to accomplish the archiving task. This results in additional work for me, a second copy being sent to everyone, and needless delay for anyone who wishes to view the message via that archive.

So instead of this:

To: pamato at arnoldmo.org, mikem4 at sbcglobal.net, mturley at lewisrice.com,
lssfcd at umsl.edu, paulreinheimer at charter.net, fanagn at aol.com,
	gail at tknetonline.com, m.edward.williams at courts.mo.gov,
jeffnews at yourjournal.com, nvrweakly at aol.com, good at thurmanlaw.com,
candiruwho at aol.com, awbecker at custom-ins.com,
fentonnews at currentnewsmagazine.com, dht at wegmannlaw.com,
	sean.king at edwardjones.com, dodsonlaw at aol.com, vpresnell at cecstl.org,
mattw at j98.com, bwvalle at sbcglobal.net,
bigrivernews at currentnewsmagazine.com, rkelly at post-dispatch.com,
kcarbery at yourjournal.com, heidimayer at leaderpublications.biz,
	rick.jackoway at molawyersmedia.com, dbeckham at jeffcomo.org

I would recommend sending things this way:

To: commission at lists.jeffcocharter.org, fentonnews at currentnewsmagazine.com,
mattw at j98.com, bigrivernews at currentnewsmagazine.com,
rkelly at post-dispatch.com, kcarbery at yourjournal.com,
        heidimayer at leaderpublications.biz,
jeffnews at yourjournal.com, nvrweakly at aol.com,
	rick.jackoway at molawyersmedia.com, dbeckham at jeffcomo.org

If desired, I could also add the listed media contacts as recipients of the commission at lists.jeffcocharter.org listserv, so we don't have to individually add their addresses. The advantage would be that each media contact is assured of getting each message. However, I am not sure this is a good idea, because they would also get copied on some of our other conversations.

On the other end of the spectrum, we have "housekeeping" messages such as the various recent messages about additional guests we would like to invite to future charter meetings -- in my opinion these could have been sent directly to the co-chairs, rather than sent via the list.

Best,
Tony Becker
