Paul et al.,

To answer Mr. Turley's question, and as Paul has discovered: the data is broken down by what the census calls "voting district," which is what the county terms "polling place." So in most cases, a "voting district" in census terms is an aggregation of more than one "precinct" or "ward." This is an aggregation of convenience created at the county level, not at the state or federal level.

The problem, as Paul pointed out, is that the county re-created those "polling places" as a result of the 2000 data. The polling place as counted during the 2000 census does not (necessarily) represent the same set of districts or wards *now* as it did when this count was taken.

Because no census has been taken while these "polling places," as currently defined, were in existence -- no one is going to find information aggregated at that level.

However, if the County Clerk can give us the following information:

* A list (or map) of precincts, wards and their boundaries as *currently* defined.
* A list showing how those precincts & wards map to the current set of "polling places"

...we can construct what we need from the census figures by looking at the lower-level census block data. I asked Mr. Wagner this morning if he can provide this information, and he said he'll have it ready for me to pick up this afternoon.
